Abstract

This study seeks to compare different methods of diagnosis of dental caries, namely: conventional clinical exam, digitalized radiography, electrical conductance measurement and Quantitative Light-induced Fluorescence system in relation to occlusal surfaces, and to test conventional clinical examination, Fiber-optic Trans illumination (FOTI), conventional bitewing radiography and digitalized radiography in relation to approximal surfaces. Eighty extracted teeth will be examined, at intervals of 7 days. The sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic methods will be calculated using histological examination, transverse microradiography and easer scanning confocal microscopy as the gold standards.
