This page displays international collaborative research information funded by FAPESP. In order to encourage the researchers in São Paulo to develop collaborations in research with colleagues from other countries, FAPESP provides several financial instruments to support research.
There are several Agreements with funding agencies, research institutions and foreign companies, under which Calls for Proposals are opened in order to select and co-finance collaborative research.
Opportunities are announced in specific calls or by means of SPRINT - São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration, an initiative launched in 2014. With this instrument, funding is provided for the initial phase of international research collaboration (proposals to enhance researchers’ mobility - seed funding). At SPRINT calls, there are clear expectations that the next phase will be a presentation of research proposals by both Principal Researchers (one from the State of São Paulo and the other from a foreign country). These proposals shall be in accordance with the regular funding lines of FAPESP and with the funding agencies available to the foreign partners, aiming to continue the research started under SPRINT and the consequent consolidation of the partnership.
In addition, FAPESP provides the following institutional instruments aimed to enhance international research collaboration:
This project aims to bolster the RoboCARE initiative, a thematic project submitted to FAPESP (2024/16263-5) for cooperative implementation between the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (EACH-USP) in Brazil and a team from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. This initiative specifically focuses on enhancing applications for telepresence …
The proposed collaboration project between NOVA University and the University of São Paulo aims to advance the theoretical understanding of electron interactions, with significant implications for astrochemistry and nanotechnology. This interdisciplinary initiative seeks to empower researchers and the scientific community by fostering knowledge exchange, skill development, and the applica…
OCOD-TSA research project aims at improving our understanding of the mechanisms underlying Tropical and South Atlantic Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) low frequency variability and sensitivity to natural (i.e. solar, orbital, volcanoes) and anthropogenic forcings (i.e. greenhouse gases) and its influence on hydro-climates of surrounding regions. Tropical and South Atlantic SST may have va…

Prof. Julietta Rau's relationship with the Laboratory of Anelasticity and Biomaterials started in 2019, on the occasion of the 6th Workshop on Artificial Organs, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, where she was one of the invited speakers, with the support of FAPESP (Proc. 2019/20791-9). Taking advantage of her visit, Profa. Julietta visited the Laboratory in Bauru, where she visited ou…
This visiting proposal aims to host Professor Phillip F. Joseph, a leading expert in acoustic wave propagation and signal processing, to strengthen collaborative research and academic exchange at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Unesp-FEIS. The focus will be on advancing matched field processing techniques for structural health monitoring of buried pipelines, enabling the non-i…
In 2021, during a period of confinement due to the Covid-19 epidemic, we carried out an exploratory study of young people aged 18 to 24, from different social groups, based on four categories proposed by ECLAC: young people who only study, those who only work, those who study and work and those who neither study nor work. Is this classification enough to grasp the strong social inequaliti…

The student will systematically and rigorously study the foundations of differential geometry that underpin the mathematical formulation of general relativity. (AU)
How do newly elected populist executive local politicians and street-level bureaucrats (SLBs) interact, and how does this relationship evolve over time? This project examines subnational variation in Brazil and Belgium, focusing on the dynamics between populist mayors and SLBs. More specifically, it addresses three key research subquestions: (i) What are the mutual expectations of newly e…
The requirement for efficiency in the maintenance of engineering systems aimed at maximizing their operational availability can be achieved by employing intelligent systems for detecting abnormalities that use data from the monitoring system of these physical assets to assess the occurrence of degradation processes in their operational condition. Such systems are based on the use of Artif…

Glioblastoma remains one of the most aggressive and treatment-resistant brain tumors, largely due to the restrictive nature of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and the limited bioavailability of systemic therapies. Axitinib, a potent VEGF receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, shows therapeutic potential for glioblastoma due to its anti-angiogenic properties. However, its clinical application i…
This research project aims to analyze the dynamics of land and green grabbing in southern Piauí, emphasizing their implications for social and environmental justice. The study seeks to understand how technical systems, such as the Land Management System (SIGEF) and the Rural Environmental Registry System (SICAR), can paradoxically exacerbate inequalities in access to land and natural reso…
The relationship between class and culture gained significant prominence with the works of Pierre Bourdieu, particularly following the publication of Distinction in 1979. This book has often been interpreted as suggesting that cultural capital is intrinsically tied to a competent appreciation of high culture-a capacity predominantly held by the class fraction rich in such capital. However…

This project focuses on enhancing Digitized Adiabatic Quantum Computation (DAQC), a hybrid quantum computing paradigm that combines the strengths of adiabatic quantum algorithms with the flexibility of gate-based circuits. By leveraging classical optimization techniques, we aim to develop a general framework for designing efficient digitized protocols with reduced circuit depth and improv…
Understanding the kinematics and deformation timing of ductile shear zones is essential for reconstructing the temporal evolution of metamorphic terranes and contributes significantly to tectonic models of continental assembly. Accurately constraining the time evolution of shear zones remains challenging due to the difficulty of determining the exact timing of ductile deformation (mylonit…
Surrounded by the historical context as of the III and II BCE, Plautus' theater emerged in a scene of a broad cultural amalgam - a result of Rome's frequent expansions. Plautus' temporal arc, situated on the period commonly referred to as Midle Republic, was marked by significant changes in the apparatus that composed and administered the republican system. Notably, the Punic Wars fought …
