Abstract

Until 1970, Piracicaba experienced an intense process of industrialization propelled by historical development of its agriculture, characterized primarily by sugarcane production, and the growing economic development of the city of São Paulo. In recent decades, the process of industrial deconcentration from the state capital to its surroundings, reflecting a new world political and economic conditions that influenced the process of Brazilian industrialization and promoted greater investment São Paulo State, witnesses become a new industrial dynamics in the municipality Piracicaba, member of the administrative region of Campinas and near the main transport corridors of the State of São Paulo. Thereby, Piracicaba started to receive new industrial investments, where we highlight international economic groups, previously almost absent in this city. In the competition to attract these investments, the municipal government had a leading role in promoting tax incentives, the maintenance of institutions for the qualification of labor site, and the creation of own land for installation of these companies. Our research proposes an extensive analysis on the process of industrialization of the city, with emphasis on the different stages of its development and its recent transformations. (AU)
