Abstract

This dissertationaims to study how black people are conceivedand represented in intellectual productions of Abdias Nascimento when he led the Teatro Experimental do Negro (1944-1968). For illustrative purposes we will use the factsthat preceded and followed thatperiod. However, wewill place the author in the historical and social context from 1944 to 1968, and will look the construction of his thinking on race relations in Brazil, and his anti-racism activism, considering his intellectual, political and ideological influences. We look at how the notion of a black cultural identity is constructed in Abdias Nascimentos discourse in that period ofchanges on ways of thinking about race relations in Brazil. (AU)
