Abstract

This thesis presents an ethnography of the relationships between the Brazil nut gatherers from Vila São Francisco do Iratapuru, located in the state of Amapá in Brazilian Amazon, and the biggest cosmetic industry of Brasil, Natura, located in the city of Cajamar in São Paulo. This work is a comparative exercise that encompasses the description of the mode of existence of this amazon population and Natura Company. The research aims to describe and analyze material and conceptual exchanges between nut gatherers and entrepreneurs through the manifestation of categories and concepts that define and guide their knowledge practices: crossings and chains; debts and profits; nature and market appears here as contrasting economic guidelines and mainly as different ways to create and maintain relationships.
