Abstract

The PhD Thesis reported here is about a research that examines a heuristic, and formalization creative process applied to a Computer Assisted Textural Music Composition. Part of the study presented in this work focused on an investigation based on textural music pieces of XX century composed by the Hungarian composer: György Ligeti. Theory references, and concepts developed were used for modeling, via computational support, a compositional system with the same characteristics found at the textural masterpieces and natural phenomena. Some aspects developed at the research were based on: a) the concept of Textural Cells, Textural Layers, Textural Sound Blocks: articulated, continuous and mixed, b) the mapping of these textural musical elements in a parametric space and, by consequence, the development of a grammar, c) Elaboration of generative tools in a computational environment and, finally, d) the transcription of the generated parameters by the computer to the musical score of Multiverso that is a result of this implementation based on a formalized model. All the issues described in this Thesis take part in a theoric introduction including the concept of texture and multidimension space followed by a descriptive study of two musical pieces: Atmosphères e Ramifications by Ligeti. Next step, we approach the ramifications of the deployed model applied to an Assisted Textural Music Composition. Ultimately, we describe about the contribution of this Thesis in the development of a creative process and a comparative study to the piece Multiverso for strings and percussion (AU)
