Abstract

Facing the mass incarceration phenomenon in Brazil, which have been tightly and quickly developed from the 1990s and the consequent enhancement of degrading conditions and rights violations, tortures and deaths in freedom privation places, the \"Pastoral Carcerária\" stands as a mediator organization between jailed people, the international system of human rights protection and the State, acting as a tracking and control mechanism of the brazilian penitentiary system. So, this work performed a qualitative research in the political participation journey of the \"Pastoral Carcerária\", as a way to understand how happens and develops this direct fight against the criminal State. For this, we build a theoretical mark that supports the ideological-political-scientific position in which belongs this research, weaving links between the Political Psichology and the criminalization and punishment issues. We performed semi-open interviews with three actors of the organization, through a semi-structured script, articulating the theoretical-methodological references of the Thematic Oral History, the Discourse Analysis and the Political Consciousness Analysis Model. From the interviewed\'s narratives we built the political participation trajectory of the \"Parceral Carcerária\" in human rights defense, including their psychopolitical aspects from the analysis of the political consciousness seven dimensions. The narratives bring an important historical component of the organization\'s collective actions, pointing its emergence with the Liberation Theology in Latin America in the mid-twentieth century and its development in the political participation in dictatorship\'s opposition movements in Brazil, being represented and signified by the surveyed, as an educational and political socialization way, and like an important political actor in direct confrontation with the criminal state in today\'s mass incarceration (AU)
