In this work, I present an ethnography about the prison experience of foreign women in São Paulo, marked, in one hand, by the isolation from the exterior world (both the world beyond the walls and by being outside their home countries), and, in another hand, by a series of connections which allows them to have a certain presence and other margins of action with the outside world. Based on a field work with multiple physical dimensions (inside, between and outside walls), I look to analyse the way in which these women become foreigners in relation to other agents between the multiple interiors and exteriors of the prison. Starting from my role as a volunteer and researcher with the "Instituto Terra Trabalho e Cidadania" (ITTC ¿ Institute of Land, Labour and Citizenship), but not restricting myself to it, I followed networks inside networks, flows between different borders, in different scales, which articulate the imprisonment of these (in)dividual people, down to the transnational entanglements. These flows and borders are observed from the bonds build in the set of prison policies and pregnant prisoners. From these two axes, I discuss how the transnational and beyond prison borders interactions give life to these foreign women and, on the contrary, how the relationships established by, and around these women, give life to these borders in different degrees (AU) | |
