Abstract

This research intends to analyze the social trajectory of the instrumentalist, composer and conductor Francisca Edwiges Neves Gonzaga (1847-1935), considering the network of relations and interdependencies in which this artist was embedded and how the objectification of her charisma took place, both through the artistic recognition she received in life and through the documentation and interpretation of her legacy through the biographies written about her. In a similar way, it intends to verify how the musical experience, when socially and historically contextualized, constituted, for Chiquinha Gonzaga, a process of construction of her identity as a musician, and, at the same time, of her identity as a woman. It also has the purpose of investigating the gender inflexions present in the cultural production of symbolic goods in the turn-of-the-century Rio de Janeiro, understanding musical activity (instrumental execution and composition) as a process of constitution of subjectivities in the intersection with the main markers of social difference (sexuality, color, generation, social class and gender) (AU)
