Abstract

Through the cartographic method, which includes the participation of the researcher in several design processes, in different contexts, this research conducts a mapping of indicators of the emergence of new conditions in the processes of creation, both in the Arts and in the Design fields, which demand that we rethink our ways of designing. Such social, cultural and technological conditions investigated in the present study are mainly related to co-creation and, therefore, to the notion of controllability over the creative process, in a complex context. It is examined how the design process - as part of the process of sociocultural evolution - tends to become more and more complex and behave as an open and evolutionary system, considering the various forms of openness that may exist during the process. The experience was conducted through: a) critical review of literature, b) exploratory research, and c) practical experiences in projects, as complementary modes of operation that occurred simultaneously. It was possible to observe how some existing models of the design process can be transformed according to the singularities of the project in question, especially in view of the evolutionary nature of the objects (understood as systems) that are produced today. In examining complexity as the main condition for creation processes, we highlight the emergence of creation, production, and distribution structures - not only of design products, but mainly of knowledge. With the identification of some practices and methodologies that are emerging and transforming the ways of designing, it was possible to address the logic of openness, sharing and distribution that are currently creating new territories, when dialoguing with the business logic. By exposing and analyzing aspects that differentiate the traditional design process from a design process conceived as evolutionary, also exposing the tensions (mainly political) negotiated during the project practice, this research contributes to the reformulation of the notion of controllability over the design process, and to the projection of new ways of working with the potentials of the emergent behavior (AU)
