Abstract | |
The general objective of this research is to formulate the question of the possible current relevance of The World as Will and Representation¿s author, Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), in morals, ethics, politics and law, especially in regard to a particular issue that seems to be the imbrication of these four subjects, namely the issue of human rights, verifying the extension and impacts of this author¿s contemporary relevance for this theme. This effort comprises four stages: (i) exegesis of Schopenhauer's texts, especially those about his practical philosophy, (ii) investigating through Schopenhauer's manuscripts in order to find remains of his notes that were the basis for his ethics formulation, and therefore enabling explanations for possible gaps in Schopenhauer¿s argument (iii) to expose the current hermeneutical possibilities which would make possible the update process of Schopenhauer¿s philosophy; (iv) to contextualize some human rights issues related to the aims of our thesis; and (v) evaluating the extent and impact of Schopenhauer in these disputes. When developing the foregoing stages, it is expected to explain the relationship between morality, ethics, rights and politics in Schopenhauer¿s philosophy, and to introduce his current thought to the contemporary debate on human rights. We aim to highlight all of the relevant issues that he brings to the discussion as well as the reasons why other issues there present do not show pronounced relevance. Such journey will allow a better understanding and exposition of the importance of Schopenhauer in contemporary debates on political philosophy and philosophy of law (AU) | |
