Abstract

This research analyzes the comic character of melodramatic plays staged by Circus Nerino in the mid-twentieth century. The comic character, when present, usually streamline and introduce new aspects to melodramatic drama mostly tense and complicated. In the past this type of story was well appreciated by the public, so far staged in Brazilian circuses of the time. To better understand the issue, we chose the Circus Nerino to supplement textual analysis with elements of staging and performing such plays. The three pieces that integrate this work were selected because of the importance of comic character and illustrate very well what we want to analyze this work. The titles of the works studied in this thesis: ...E o Céu Uniu Dois Corações, de Antenor Pimenta, staged in 1949; Jerônimo, o herói do sertão de Joaquim Silva, staged in 1955 and A Mestiça de Agenor Garcia, staged in 1950 (AU)
