Abstract

The thesis proposes an interpretative trajectory through the work of the writer and visual artist Nuno Ramos (1960), approaching its literary and plastic realms, as well as the artists activity as essay-writer. It focuses, first of all, on the different modes of conception of language, regarding the artists writing practices and, most of all, the production of relations between this domain and an expanded field of the visual arts, identified in the core of a major part of Ramoss poetics. For doing so, its crossed perspective is structured by a notion of voice, grounded upon references from certain theories of utterance and poetry and psychoanalytical concepts, mostly from the Lacanian tradition, attempting to carry some of its ethical, political and ontological consequences, always in regard to the issue of the subject. Parts I, II and III begin with a basic chronological organization, and bring to the fore the analyses of works considered to be essential for the purposes of the thesis, always making an effort to expand these analyses towards the multiple realms of the artists activity, aiming at pointing out structural and historical comparisons between literature and the visual arts, as well as between Ramoss poetics and its others. Its basic corpus is composed by the books Cujo (1993), Ó (2008) and Sermões (2015), and by the visual art works 111 (1992), Vai, vai (2006) and Ensaio sobre a dádiva (2014/2016). In the last part of the thesis, these debates are expanded by means of a reading of some aspects of the artists essaywriting, mostly in regard to the theme of interpretation of Brazil, and attempting to unfold this line, in relation to the artist activity as song-writer, towards the universe of popular song.
