Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to comprehend the role of the Campinas Metropolitan Area at the state and national migratory dynamics, and how the characteristics of the migratory flows and migrants¿ profile changed after the 1990¿s. Such process was analyzed considering the industrial restructuring production, and the insertion of the region on the São Paulo state urban network. For that it is necessary to understand how the industrial process developed itself on the Campinas Metropolitan Area, on an endogenous way ¿ through the coffee industry investments, very important in the region ¿ and external, through the industrial sprawl from the São Paulo Metropolitan Area towards the state¿s countryside, facilitated for Brazilian government¿s policies. Besides that, it is important to discuss the metropolization process and the role of the Campinas Metropolitan Area on the state¿s city network. Then, considering the changes on the migrants¿ characteristics and the migratory flows on the region, it will be analyzed how the capital¿s investments and the industrial economic development changed the migrants characteristics, such as the role of the Campinas¿ region on the state and national mobility. Therefore, it was observed, through the IBGE Demographic Census data for the years 1991, 2000 and 2010, that there was a transformation of the migratory flows, with the increase of the participation of the intranetropolitan flows, and with the other regions of the São Paulo Macrometropolis, which evidences the integration of the Campinas Metropolitan Area into the urban network in the State of São Paulo. Regarding the characteristics of the migrants, there was an increase in schooling, in addition to an increase in their participation in high-level activities, influenced by the transformations and restructuring production of the Campinas Metropolitan Area economy (AU)
