Abstract

The different mobilities forms (spatial, virtual and imaginary) are related to the ongoing urban sprawl. People's day-to-day life ends up exceeding the political-administrative boundaries of municipalities, and their daily lives become regionalized. The objective of this dissertation was to analyze the population spatial mobility and the urban sprawl, discussing their role for the regionalization. The geographic cut of analysis of the mentioned phenomena is the Urban Agglomeration of Piracicaba (UAP). Located in the interior of São Paulo, the UAP has 23 municipalities and was institutionalized by the government of the state of São Paulo in 2012. The UAP was discussed from the idea of art-fact, that is, an analytical artifice and a regional fact. For this analysis, secondary data of pendularity and migration of the Demographic Censuses of 2000 and 2010, for municipalities. Spatial metrics applied to the Statistical Grid were used to measure the population distribution in a period of dispersed urbanization as a way of life and urban sprawl, while the shape of cities. Important elements that constituted the phenomena of urban sprawl and of the daily life¿s regionalization were found, such as an increase in the pendularity that more than doubled in the period, increasing by about 250%. Such flows present a logic of clustering, especially among spatially close municipalities. Spatial metrics and analysis of the landscape used indicated different intensities of the urban sprawl process in the municipalities belonging to UAP, especially in the midsize ones such as Piracicaba, Limeira and Araras, with highways having an important role as a vector and a product of dispersion. The New Mobilities Paradigm presented itself as an important theoretical set to think of the urban sprawl as a way of life of the contemporary society allied to the different forms of mobility (AU)
