Abstract

This thesis analyzes the urbanization process of seaside resorts at the coasts of Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul in the period from 1860 to 1950. The comparative study addresses the formation and the evolution of some of the first seaside resorts. Its aim is to demonstrate how the urban projects and seaside resort typologies were constructed in Pocitos, Ramirez and Carrasco, in Uruguay, and Imbé, Atlântida and Capão da Canoa, in Rio Grande do Sul. The analyzed cases reveal the similarities and differences between the seaside resorts in these territories and confirm the hypothesis that the circulation of ideas enabled the formation of singular and authentic projects at these coastlines (AU)
