Abstract | |
Acrylic resin burs are semi-critical instruments and have been overlooked in infection control. The purpose of this study was to verify the presence of microrganisms in acrylic resin burs, that were ready to be used, ffom 80 graduation students at FORP-USP. A survey on methods of infection control applied to acrylic resin burs was conducted and the isolates were identified and tested against 12 antimicrobial agents. Although the students know how to proceed with the burs, there was a high contamination percentage (36,3%) and some burs were contaminated with more than one species. There were isolated gram-positive cocci and bacilli and gram-negative bacilli resistants to antibiotics commonly used in Dentistry like penicillin, clindamicin and eritromicin (AU) |
