Abstract

This work aims to describe and analyze the contributions of Jacob do Bandolim as a choro musician, raising the particularities of his personal style through the following procedures: a reflection on Jacob¿s statements to the Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) in Rio de Janeiro; an study about his social and cultural contexts regarding performance, especially the relevant aspects of his musical development; an analysis of the statements of musicians who had worked with him, had personal contact with him, or had studied his oeuvre or interpretations; and with bigger emphasis, on an approach to the interpretative elements of his musical style, extracted from the analysis of his interpretations of selected works of two important composers of choros: Ernesto Nazareth and Pixinguinha (AU)
