Abstract

The thesis presents and discusses the creation of an Information Design (ID) discipline model for the Information Science (IS) area. ID is essential for understanding, designing and implementing solutions aimed at presenting verbal and imagery visual language in physical and digital informational environments. It is necessary to rethink the role of the fields and professionals that make up Information Science, since Archives, Libraries and Museums are providing their products and services in highly visual digital information environments. The discipline model focuses on undergraduate students in Archivology and Librarianship at UNESP Marília. The study utilized a hybrid methodology of application, being supported in bibliographical, exploratory research, of theoretical and qualitative nature including the literature of the area of IS and ID. The article describes the stages and activities carried out to create the syllabus of the course containing the objectives, the programme content, the teaching method, the basic bibliography, evaluation criteria and the schedule of classes and activities. It reports on the characteristics of the application of the discipline in the classroom and points out a possible future in which the discipline of ID is inserted in the undergraduate curricula of Archival Science and Librarianship, with the potential to train the students appropriately, becoming a necessary competence for their academic, scientific and professional performance.
