Abstract

In recent years there has been a growing increase in the development of new techniques of controlled radical polymerization (CRP). In view of this, this work provides a synthetic of a new non-symmetrical cobalt (II) complex, [CoII(Salen-tert-butyl)]. The precursor, the ligand and the complex were characterized by absorption spectroscopy in the UV-Vis region, vibrational spectroscopy in the infrared region (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H and 13C NMR). The [CoII(Salen-tert-butyl)] complex was used as a mediator in the photo-OMRP (Radical Polymerization Mediated by Organometallic Complexes) of vinyl acetate (VAc) and butyl acrylate (BA) in different molar types [BA ] / [CoII] / [TPO]. With the kinetic study it was noted that all systems based on a pseudo-first order kinetic profile. Systems with smaller TPO offer less control, with polydispersity indexes (Ð) below 1.5. The photo-OMRP mediated by the symmetric complex [CoII(Salen-di-tertbutyl)] shows greater control in polymerization. (AU)
