Abstract

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that lacks a fully satisfactory definition. It is assumed that 25% of patients with epilepsy are women of childbearing age and 0.3 to 0.6% of all children are born of mothers with epilepsy. The pregnant women with epilepsy involves stressors that may be assessed as personal burden to adaptive mechanisms. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) and significant signs of stress in pregnant women with epilepsy during pregnancy and after three months postpartum and compared with non pregnant women with epilepsy. We evaluated two groups: experimental group (EG) formed by 29 pregnant women with epilepsy and control group (CG) consisted of 30 women with epilepsy, all patients of the Neurology, Psychology Applied to HC / UNICAMP. The experimental group was subjected to three meetings to conduct anamnesis; implementation of Quality of Life Questionnaire - QQV-65 (Souza, 2001); Stress Symptoms Inventory (Lipp, 1994), Protocol and Protocol Stressful Pregnancy Strategy adaptive Pregnancy (Torrezan, 1994). No significant differences in the measurement of QOL and stress when comparing both groups. However, in GE, when evaluated individually in the pre and post partum significant differences in aspects of health (p = 0.0495), physical (0.02868) and emotional (p = 0.0253) in QQV-65 and the extent of the phases of stress . It was observed that pregnancy is a potent stressor that when removed shows improvements in QoL and stress. (AU)
