Abstract

The purpose of this work is to show why mathematical concepts are useful to describe phenomena of our empirical reality without having to commit ourselves to the existence of abstract objects. By analyzing the development of Heisenberg's non-relativistic quantum mechanics, we show how mathematical and quantum mechanical concepts are related to each other. After the analysis of Mark Steiner's thesis on the applicability of mathematics, we expose our own point of view, which was based on some ideas on structuralism due to Jairo José da Silva (AU)
