Abstract

This dissertation discusses about the use of social networking sites on the Internet by Brazilian migrants from Botelhos - Minas Gerais who lives in the USA. The sites analyzed are Orkut and Facebook. The use of social networking sites for international migrants has increased. In these sites - through different ways of posts messages, photographs, comments, etc. -, the migrants show how they realize their life before, during and after their emigration to the USA. The profiles dialogue with a very specific network of friendship. This fact allows that the emigration becomes a shared project between the migrants and their network of friendships. Accordingly, as some aspects are highlighted (Botelhos, family, Brazil, EUA, missing, religion) another aspects (as work) are almost excluded. So, the contents and the way that these same contents are exposed vary according with each software (AU)
