Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze some of the main anarchist newspapers in circulation in the city of São Paulo between 1901 and 1935: O Amigo do Povo (SP, 1901- 1904), Germinal (SP, 1902), La Battaglia (SP, 1904-1912), A Terra Livre (SP/RJ, 1905-1910), Germinal-La Barricata (SP, 1913), Guerra Sociale (SP, 1915-1917) and A Plebe (SP, 1917-1935), in addition to the anticlerical newspaper A Lanterna (SP, 1901- 1904, 1009-1915, 1932-1935). The analysis, in a comparative perspective, prioritizes, alongside the contents, these newspapers in their technical design (design and aesthetic choices), structuring (ways of financing) and forms of placement (distribution and sociability networks), as well as the performance of some of its creators, all worker-journalists and important libertarian militants of the time. In addition, it seeks to relativize the conflicting relationship between these libertarian sheets and the commercial press, whose developments help to understand how these individuals were inserted in the very development of journalism in Brazil.
