Abstract

Rosa Luxemburg was a Polish revolutionary socialist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She stood out for her defence of proletarian internationalism and her critique of nationalism. The tense relationship between these two perspectives of political action ran through the entire existence of the Socialist International, in evidence that her formulations were deeply connected to the political and historical conjuncture of her period. The aim of this thesis is to analyse Luxemburg's formulations on the national question and how, starting from them, it is possible to arrive at elements of a political economy of proletarian internationalism. We start from her first texts, which dealt with the Polish question, and arrive at the critique of the Bolshevik policy on the self-determination of peoples, chronologically following her formulations on the question of nationalities, seeking to reconstitute Luxemburg’s positions according to the historical context and to her political discussions with interlocutors from Russian and German social democracy. Starting from a historical reading of the development of capitalism and its political relations, Luxemburg offers one of the most creative interpretations of the question of nationalities. Having analysed an extensive bibliography recently translated from Polish, this work sheds light on both the Western Rosa Luxemburg and the Polish Róza Luksemburg (AU)
