Abstract

Companies are susceptible to several risks that can negatively impact the achievement of their strategic objectives when operating and relating to other agents in the business environment. To thrive, effective management of these risks is suggested. This study aims to analyze the corporate risks in the relationships established between agents in the business environment. For this, the agents of the business environment, the relationships established between these agents and the corporate risks that emanate from these relationships were identified and characterized. Finally, an operational model for identifying and analyzing enterprise risks was proposed. The theoretical framework was structured in agents, relationships and risks, supported by the theories New Institutional Economics, Industrial Organization, Interorganizational Relations and Enterprise Risk Management. The research methodology is qualitative and was carried out in seven stages: literature review; operational model for risk analysis proposal; model application with managers; model improvements applications; validation with managers; application and validation of the model in two real cases; and analysis: applicability of the model and practical implications. The cases studied comprise two large companies, one that works with transport and logistics in the oil and gas sector and the other that it is a manufacturer in the aviation sector. Data were collected from public documents and interviews with managers, and later analyzed through data condensing techniques, data presentation and conclusions and verification. In the academic context, this study contributes by expanding the enterprise risk management literature from the perspective of agents and relationships, that is, from the organization\'s business environment. In the managerial context, it has a practical contribution and real impact by proposing an operating model for identifying and analyzing enterprise risks. (AU)
