Abstract

Web 2.0 brought the need to organize and preserve information on digital platforms through Digital Curation. Folksonomy - a form of collaborative cataloging on Web 2.0 - in this sense, can be a tool for Digital Curation, as in addition to providing access to information, it can be used as an element of preservation of digital informational objects. Web 2.0 has also made it possible to carry out collaborative processes in museums, as in the Museum of the Person, which has a collection composed of life stories. This research questions: What are the relations between preservation and access in Digital Curation? What are the relations between Folksonomy and Digital Curation? How does Folksonomy fit into the context of preservation? How does the Museum of the Person carry out Digital Curation on its website? How can Folksonomy be used by the Museum of the Person? Thus, this study seeks to demonstrate that Folksonomy works as a preservation element in Digital Curation and not just access, through the proposal to use Folksonomy on the Museu da Pessoa website. Therefore, the specific objectives of this research are: to explain the relationship between access and preservation in Digital Curation, through the contextualization of Digital Curation in Information Science and the analysis of the main concepts and discussions on the subject; explain the relationship between Folksonomy and Digital Curation through reflections on the Life Cycle of Digital Curation; insert Folksonomy, which is classically defined as an element for access, in the context of preservation; carry out a case study of the Museum of the Person in order to identify possibilities for applying Folksonomy on its website; propose the use of Folksonomy as a preservation element to be used by the Museum of the Person and demonstrate where it could be applied. This research is justified by the need for collaborative processes in the stages of digital curation, related to preservation and by the need for greater participation of people in the technical processes of information retrieval. From the analyzes carried out on the Museum of the Person website, it was possible to conclude that Folksonomy would benefit the Museum if applied directly to the collection of life stories. It was also possible to conclude that Folksonomy provides greater participation of communities of interest in the technical processes and actions of Digital Curation. Such participation, understood as the main motivation for the use of Folksonomy, is essential in view of the need for approximation between informational subjects and information professionals, in addition to contributing to the recovery, sharing and creation of new knowledge.
