Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the ecological risk presented by metals cadmium, lead, copper, chromium VI, nickel, mercury and zinc to the aquatic organisms in some aquatic environments of the State, through the use of a computer program of risk evaluation and of the comparison of the results found with toxicity tests with Ceriodaphnia dubia in the same period. Materiais and methods: 30 sampling points of the Rede de Monitoramento of CETESB, distributed between 12 UGRHls had been evaluated for the concentrations of the cited agents, for the period of 1997-2001 and the year of 2000 isolated; the data had been inserted in the WERF program that generated graphs of risk with the percentages of genera in risk of chroníc toxic effect; the joined results later had been compared with the results of tests of toxicidade with C. dubia, relative to the same period. Results: The metals lead, copper and chromium VI had been the chemical agents which had shown the most ambient risks to the aquatic organisms. The toxicity tests of the period agree with the results presented for the program with 87% of the sampling points showing some toxic effect, in the period of five year. Conclusion: Through the use of WERF program is perceived that the ambient concentrations of the studied heavy metals in the water bodies of the State show high risk of chronic effect to the organisms fact proven through the results of the toxicity tests with the microcrustacean Ceridaphnia dubia.
