Abstract

The Out of Body Experiences (OBE) are the subject of research since the beginning of last century, however there is still no screening questionnaire for this phenomenon. Nevertheless, the literature is controversial about the definition and understanding of OBE and its etiology, which suggests the existence of multiple phenomena under the same term OBE. In a qualitative and quantitative research the present study intends to build and validate an OBE questionnaire which can describe and explore the various constituent elements of the experience, the meanings and understandings given by OBErs and the consequences and changes in their life , resulted from experience. The preparation of the questionnaire will be based on literature data and data collected through six focus groups, and free lists. The qualitative data will be analysed by content analysis, with theoretical support in the phenomenology. After the confection of the questionnaire, it will be applied online into a random sample, and validated by internal consistency among items and inter item correlation (Determination of Cronbach\'s alpha coefficient and Pearson correlation analysis). Finally, t tests, chi square and cluster analysis will be applied to analyze the elements of the OBE, their relationships and possible delineation of subtypes of the experience (AU)
