Abstract

Degenerate optical parametric oscillation (DOPO) is a nonlinear process that consumes two pump photons (frequencies wp1 and wp2), generating a new pair of photons with degenerate frequency ws = (wp1 + wp2)/2. The generated signal field is resonant to an optical microcavity and oscillates once the nonlinear parametric conversion gain surpasses cavity losses. Above the oscillation threshold, the average signal field is greater than zero and oscillates in either one of two (equally possible) phase states separated by ¶...
