Degenerate optical parametric oscillation (DOPO) is a nonlinear process that consumes two pump photons (frequencies wp1 and wp2), generating a new pair of photons with degenerate frequency ws = (wp1 + wp2)/2. The generated signal field is resonant to an optical microcavity and oscillates once the nonlinear parametric conversion gain surpasses cavity losses.
