Abstract

Human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is a hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells and is the major component of islet amyloid. Islet amyloid is mainly found in the islets of type 2 diabetic patients and may be involved in pancreatic beta cells dysfunction and death in this disease. The insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) is one of the main enzymes responsible for hIAPP degradation and it was shown that IDE expression can be modulated by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor...
