Abstract

Metamaterials belong to a class of materials with properties not found naturraly or that could not be obtained from its constituent materials. Acoustic metamaterials are capable of rearranging the elastic wave propagation with the formation of frequancy bands in which large amplitude attenuation accours., known as bandgaps. The bandgaps appear as a result of wave scattering due to regions with periodic impedance variation (Bragg scattering), or as a result of locally resonant units. Resonant metamaterials are able to attenuate wave propagation at low frequancies, being investigated for their potential for mechanical vibration control, usually considering linear locally resonant units. In this work, one investigates the effects of a set of resonant units on the elastic ans aeroelastic behavior of a wing, modeled numerically as a flat plate. The system behavior under harmonic base excitation coupled to unsteady aerodynamic loads in investidated for a wide range of airflow speeds. On the aeroelastic study, the values of mass, stiffness and damping of the resonant units are discussed. The effects of nonlinear energy sinks (NES) on the aeroelastic response of the wing are also discussed. It is shown that both linear and nonlinear vibration absorbers can increase the aeroelastic stability, but the NES are able to supress flutter. (AU)
