Abstract

Some basic requirements for enterprises to raise their market share are quality and low costs. In order to increase production and quality of products as well as reduce costs, these enterprises have been using continuous improvements in their processes. These improvements do depend on the quality of the information about the production system. The correct definition of which information have to be collected as well as its proper monitoring are extremely important activities. In production processes that use machining operations, such definitions can become extremely complex tasks due to several events, variables and very specific occurrences related to machining. The intention of this research is to develop a data acquisition system for machining operations in order to accomplish shop floor monitoring. The collected data, besides helping in decision making activities, can feed a shop floor supervisory system, a production database or an enterprise resource planning system (AU)
