Abstract

This study compores the diversity, biomass and chemical composition of aquatíc macrophytes in a dry (Au9us+/98) and a rainy (February/99) season. The comparisons were accomplished through phosphorus, nitrogen and carbon analysis in the litorall zone of three lateral lagoon with diferent degrees of connectivity with Paranapanema river in its discharge zone Jurumirim reservoir. The heterogenety at the different ecotones is shown by the aquatÍc macrophytes species qualitative analysis. The study áreas were described, considering some physical and chemical factors of the water, and of the sediment. Water, sediment and plant samples were collected at each one the three transects perpendicular to the littoral region of the lagoon (Camargo, Coquerral and Cavalos). A temporal variation pattern at the Camargo/ Coqueiral and Cavalos was observed for some variables such as: dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, alcalinity, phosphorus and nitrogen at the water, and clay, silt and organic matter of the sediment. At the dry season, the electrical conductívity, alcalinity at the Camargo and Coqueiral were in general higher than at the Cavalos lakes. In this lagoon, the concentrations of nitrogen in the water higher in relation to the two others. At the rainy season, the hígher values of dissolved oxygen occurred at Camargo and Coqueiral lagoon. The nitrogen, phosphorus, clay and silt in the sediment were higher in the Camargo and Coqueiral lagoon. Regarding the aquatic plant biomasses, the higher values were observed in the dry season. However, the plant diversity was higher in the rainy season. (AU)
