Abstract

Quality on construction industry is analyzed as a system. Quality is only one of the factors to develop a Production Management System for construction. This system comes from metal mechanical sector and it is adapted to construction. Quality as a competitive factor of a Production Management System makes easier the identification of process\' failures by controlling the quantity and quality of inventory. It starts with the principle that quality and productivity ímprovement of the sector is related to the improvement of several agents which take part of production process in construction. Moreover, this improvement, as a first sight, depends on the mentality of whole sector and the analysis of all agents which influence each building under construction. In order to solve production problems, quality tools are used, as has been happening in other manufacturing sectors. The tool adequacy implicates in a prevíous analysis of the characteristics of each building construction company. For this reason, the research uses a case study methodology carried out in a médium size building constructíon company in the region of São Carlos. The exploration and description studies characteristícs of this type of qualitative research bring contributions for many others small and medium síze building construction companies. (AU)
