Abstract | |
There is an agreement among many researchers that molecular diffusion is the main contaminant process in natural liners, where the seepage velocities are lower. This dissertation presents the features of some laboratory column studies, concerning the molecular diffusion of K+ and Cl- in compacted soils from Botucatu and Serra Geral formations (north-eastem part of the state of São Paulo). The soils are treated individually and in mixtures of different proportions. The solute transport parameters ( D* and -) are obtained by modeling the real contamination data, and the retention ones by performing Batch Tests. The results demonstrate a better modeling for K+ and a simple comparison with some previous data, indicates that regarding to molecular diffusion , the soils have a similar behavior to those constituted exclusively by clays.
