Abstract

As a result of an ethnography carried out at the Program of Localization and Identification of Missing Persons (PLID) of the State of São Paulo. It focused on the processes of human identification of the bodies and their parts of unknown persons. The project aims to carefully analyze and debate on various bureaucratic communications inscribed in official documents responsible for managing the violent and non-violent death of the state. To be specific, the case of a missing person and the police investigation of a body floating in the Tiete River initiated by the Civil Police of the State of São Paulo. To deepen into the internal dynamics of the state that allow generating questions about the role of the concept of evidence and the forensic sciences involved, and at the same time, outline my evidence revealing in what way the rhetorical effects explained in the production of bureaucratic and expert practices produce a social indifference. As well as the different ways of managing the death and the missing people cases are interrelated to the impact of the lower rates of resolution of homicide cases by the state police in São Paulo (AU)
