Abstract

The current legal guidelines of the socio-educational system recommend that adolescents in conflict with the law receive treatment considering their individual needs and difficulties. However, these guidelines do not specify theoretical-methodological frameworks that may guide the assessment of adolescents, with a view to identifying their needs / difficulties. There is evidence that juvenile offenders are a heterogenous group in terms of conduct and associated psychosocial variables. An empirical typology can help to systematize information in order to identify different profiles, allowing a better understanding of the phenomenon and a prior orientation to the interventions. In this study, we worked with data from a sample of juvenile male offenders (n = 400) in order to describe a conductual and psychosocial typology in the brazilian sociocultural context. Data were collected with structured and standardized instruments. These instruments evaluated variables of self-reported delinquency, self-control, beliefs, values, attitudes, social skills and variables related to social regulation (bonding, models and control in family, school, peers and community). The profiles found in the sample were identified by performing a latent class analysis and a posterior characterization performing a Welch\'s ANOVA and a Bonferroni\'s pos test. The most suitable model was the one of 4 classes. The typology resembles others described in the literature, constructed in other realities, helping to understand that the phenomenon in question, to a great extent, transcends sociocultural specificities. The types were named as \"Circumstantial offender\", \"Sub socialized offender\", \"Conflictual offender\" and \"Antisocial offender\" due to their main characteristics. These types show significant differences between the adolescents\' offenders, both in relation to the pattern of criminal conduct, as well as in relation to exposure to risk / protective psychosocial factors associated with each of the profiles and psychological functioning. These results help in reflections on the determination of judicial measures and treatment programs. (AU)
