Abstract

This research objectives to understand if neoconservative and neoliberal values and principles could be articulated in contemporary spaces other than institutional politics. To this end, it asks whether the representation of the family elaborated and disseminated by religious leaders of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God is neoconservative-neoliberal. In order to answer this question, a documentary corpus has been constructed, consisting of 257 articles published between 2017 and 2021 by the current leader of the Universal Church, Bishop Renato Cardoso. Throughout the work, we will highlight the ways in which the family representation of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God involves and articulates neoliberalism and neoconservatism, promoting continuities but also displacements with respect to a conventional representation of the family (AU)
