Abstract

This study aims to understand the narrative construction process using collective narrative practices in group meetings with women with fibromyalgia. Data were produced using the Collective Narrative Tree of Life methodology in a group practice involving nine women with fibromyalgia. Ten weekly meetings lasting approximately one and a half hour each were conducted, culminating in a public closing ceremony at a non-governmental organization in the interior of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The results were divided into three papers. The first paper, \"Tree of Life: A Systematic Review\", undertakes a systematic review of published studies using the Tree of Life narrative methodology, analyzed according to (a) country, (b) year of publication, (c) journals, (d) language, (e) type of study/research design, (g) target population/participants, (h) instruments used, and (i) main findings. The second paper, titled \"The Use of the Tree of Life in a Group of Women with Fibromyalgia\", presents a theoretical study on the use of this methodology, focusing on group adherence strategies, principles and resources that guided the facilitators\' actions, also presenting how the \"Tree\" was used and adapted. Lastly, the third paper, \"Pain Beyond the Body: Collective Narrative Practice with Women with FM\", aims to understand the construction of self-narratives in the group through the use of Collective Narrative Practice (CNP), highlighting it as a common intersection with the narrative of care, presented through caregiving, being cared for and self-care. This study concludes that the use of the Tree of Life Narrative Methodology was effective in producing identity descriptions beyond diagnostic discourses, strengthening alternative narratives, legitimizing connections, knowledge, skills and resources, enabling personal agency, questioning limiting narratives, producing a collective and externalizing language and being flexible to adaptations that addressed needs and demands.
