Abstract | |
This work presents a study of the processes of infiltration by a liquid metal. A brief description of this processes is initially made, and the reasons to design and built a PIC (Pressure Infiltration Casting) infiltration machine are discussed. The equipment was used for the production of metal matrix composites and intermetallic materials (reactive infiltration process). The preforms were easily infiltrated during the experiments. The metal matrix composites obtained by infiltration presented a low volume fraction of porosity, with the reinforcements well distributed. In the reactive infiltration experiment, several intermetallic phases were formed, heterogeneously distributed along the sample. (AU) |
