Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between the topic of education and the textual genres explored by the writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida in her works Livro das donas e donzelas (1906), Eles e elas (1910), Correio da roça (1913) and Jornadas no meu país (1920). The study takes as its starting point the textual and compositional aspects mobilized by Júlia Lopes de Almeida in the literary elaboration of her works, which culminate in the subversion of the horizons of expectation of the textual genres. It is proposed that the four works, read in chronological order, can be interpreted as a thematically cohesive sequence of displacements of women from the private to the public space, moving closer to a more practical and reflective learning, as opposed to ornamental education. This shift, in turn, can be understood in greater depth by considering the historical and social context of women at the beginning of the 20th century in Brazil. To this end, the research uses the framework of studies on specific textual genres (Letter, chronicle, domestic manual and travel diary) and literary criticism specializing in the writer. From this perspective, the study points to the closer correlation between textual composition, themes and historical context in Lopes de Almeida\'s work (AU)
