Abstract

With technological advancements and industrial development, new applications arise along with new requirements to be met. In the industry, these requirements emerge from the need for real-time responsiveness, demanding deterministic communication between devices. Achieving these requirements has become a goal for new technologies such as TSN, DetNet, and the next generations of mobile networks (5G and 6G). While TSN appears as a promising alternative within the industry by delivering deter- minism and, at the same time, high compatibility with other existing market solutions, its reliance on cables limits application flexibility, making wireless integration a beneficial alternative. The advent of 5G promises to deliver communication that meets industrial requirements, and 3GPP is already working to integrate the technology with TSN and DetNet in its latest specifications. The integration of both technologies promises a bright future; however, several aspects must be considered when combining them. This work addresses device synchronization and flow mapping between the two technologies. Furthermore, our work seeks to aid in developing an environment to simulate this integration by presenting the environment we built during the process. Our work presents the implementation of time synchronization between TSN domains through 5G according to 3GPP specifications, highlighting the parameters that influence synchronization accuracy. Additionally, we applied flow mapping between TSN and 5G based on the applications’ quality of service parameters and applied our implementations in a general use case for industrial production lines (AU)
