| Abstract | |
This ethnography was based on conversations with different men imprisoned in a pavilion belonging to the PCC in the São Luís-MA Prison Complex, known as the \"Pedrinhas Penitentiary\". Based on these conversations, I initially seek to describe what my interlocutors understand as a dignified way of serving their sentence, in terms of fulfilling their rights, and the way they developed to demand them. Then, based on the problem that triggered our field, the work within that Unit, I discuss how the irmãos and companheiros understand the scarcity of job opportunities operating there, related to the state category \"faction members\". They argue that they are specific \"faction members\" and understand that the prison administration also presupposes this specificity. I also focus on how the predicates suggested by the term \"faction member\" are reinterpreted by my interlocutors based on their experiences with crime. Finally, I explore the ways in which the irmãos and companheiros define the State, Justice and prison administration, references whose degree of abstraction is circumstantially defined. Then, in opposition, I try to outline the reasons why my interlocutors see themselves and the PCC, in its transcendence, as the right thing to do. This is, therefore, an analytical description resulting from the encounter between the issues listed by some men in this pavilion and the incitements and listening on the part of myself and my co-supervisor. A text that describes points of view that produce successive refractions, and which is, therefore, itself a refraction of what the irmãos and companheiros told me (AU) | |
