Abstract

The ultrasound is used as method of early diagnosis of the pregnancy and fetal viability in the bitch, however your application for the estimate of the gestacional age is limited in this species, when compared to your use in the human. Possibly this happens due to a great variety in the size of the several races of these mammals, fact that determines differences in the fetal structures. Serial ultrasonographic examinations were performed in 10 bitches of the race Rottweiller, primíparous and multíparous, for the accompaniment of the development of the feminine reproductive apparel and of the concepto, in elapsing of the pregnancy. The date of only breeding was considered the day 0 of pregnancy and the exams began in the 2'0 GRAUS' day of pregnancy. Characteristics of the embryonic and fetal development of dogs were observed and accomplished the following mensurations: diameter of the traverse and longitudinal embryonic vesicle, diameter of the uterine horns, length fetal crown-rump, distance biparietal, thickness and width of the placenta zonal, abdominal and thoracic diameter, volume of the embryonic vesicle and length of long bones (thighbone). Measurements were accomplished in the neonatos to compare them to the results of the last exam by ultrasound. Formulas were derived for each variable for us to esteem the gestational age (AU)
