Abstract

This dissertation studies cases in which men and women were arrested by the police on the first decade of the Republic, on the city of São Paulo. The main objective of this work is to analyze the presence, the activities and the repression of the involved people through the police inquirements, ¿vagrancy¿ records and kept correspondence at the AESP. With this material, it was possible to follow how different definitions of crimes were used by the police officers, men, and women, either they were accused, victim or witnesses. The main speakers of those police inquirements were men, and that have influenced much on the police actions and the suspicious over the moral conduct of the women involved. On interpretation of the law, on seek protection among the young and virgin women to guarantee the family honesty. The same way they have accused ¿cáftens¿ of women corruption to live of prostitution. However, on the police acts, the suspects and the authority intervention handled with different people and honor comprehensions, freedom, relationships not always concerned with the nation family honesty (AU)
