Abstract

For over forty years of career, Jorge Ben Jor passed through different tendencies inside popular music. He stood near bossa-nova, Jovem Guarda, Tropicália, incorporated the 70's funk music and the 80's pop. In the beginning of 90's, he resurges with "W/Brasil", reconquering the young audience, and his last CD, Recuerdos de Asunción 443 (Som Livre/2007), includes a song dedicated to the teenager fashion trend called emo - "Emo". Putting all together, it is possible to note the diversity of references in Ben Jor's music. Furthermore, this artist renders his music in a very distinguished manner. On the other hand, although Jorge is a peculiar icon of the MPB, there is no academic research about him. This fact also contributed to choose him as subject of this work. In this research, therefore, I intend to identify the main characteristics of the Jorge Ben Jor's music, objectifying a better understanding of the compositional-interpretative style of this artist.
