Abstract | |
The main subject of this research is the self-portrait. Three methods have been used to accomplish it: Painting, photography and graphic design. The aim of the research is to establish relations between the painting as a method of representation (subjectivity + phenomenology) and the photography as an indicative method (subjectivity + machine/program)*. In addition to supporting the questions relative to self-representation and the production of ones self image, the project creates a link between the selfportrait as a painting and the self-portrait as a photo while attempting to enclose the specifications of each method. Certain fixed rules and a whole operational method has been established for the creation of the selfportraits. Another section of the project is the assembling of a book (with the entire collection of images produced using the photographic method), together with the creation of the installation composed by 238 self-portrait paintings.
