Abstract

In January 2009, the Portuguese poet Herberto Helder publishes the second version of A faca não corta o fogo and that is the closing book of the most recent anthology, Ofício Cantante- poesia completa. We intend to select and then analyze some poems of this work, questioning the pursuit of unity between things in terms of poetry, poetic project located in a historic horizon more exacerbated fragmentation. Even though he knows do not achieve it definitely such search works as mote or engine that propels the poetry herbertiana, leading her to revere the analog language. Well show the moments of the book in which this objective is difficult or almost impossible, establishing a tension between the desire of creative power and creative impotence, forcing the poet often to sing his lack of success with poetry. We propose as the analytical methodology the metapoetic reading of the texts of A faca não corta o fogo, starting from this point to other themes or other questions also relevant. In this way, we would detach more dialogues in this book with the tradition: the early German Romanticism, the German poet Friedrich Hölderlin, the ancient Greeks, the Bible, the medieval lyric and the poet Luís de Camões. Its a revistitation of tradition, not restricting the names and texts mentioned, oversteping the boundaries of poetry. (AU)
