Abstract

This dissertation is a contribution to the studies on the consolidation of urbanistic ideas in São Paulo related the presence of French a Dominican monk, Louis-Joseph Lebret, who came to the south east brazilian city during the 1950\'s. This work is part of a collective research on the presence and and views of foreigners in São Paulo during this period, a makes an effort to elucidate the theoretical and conceptual field at the base of urbanistic propositions related to the city development, modernization and metropolization. Our focus is the conceptual paradigm of \"harmonized development\" introduced by Lebret in so called \"third world\" countries after the second World War, considered in terms of its innovative approach of urban problems and of its role in the redefinition of the urbanistic field in São Paulo. The specific object of the analysis is the work Lebret developed in the city between 1947 and 1958. (AU)
